PRIVATE ALEXANDER TECHNIQIUE SESSIONS WITH HOLLY

Find freedom and ease in your body to do what you love.

What is the Alexander Technique?

The Alexander Technique is an awareness-based bodywork practice that uses highly skilled, aware touch and guidance from a teacher to help you find more ease and less tension in your body, and to find more freedom to do any simple or complex activity you are hoping to do. The work explores posture and the interconnected relationships between the parts of the body to unlearn old habits and find new ways of moving and being.

The technique was created by an actor named F. M. Alexander in the early 1900’s. He found that he was continually losing his voice while performing and discovered that it was because of the way he was using his body and his voice. So, he set out to figure out how to change.

Who is the Alexander Technique for?

  • those dealing with chronic pain

  • those recovering from injury or surgery

  • those wanting to have less tension

  • performers interested in improving their chosen artistic craft

  • those looking to use their body better in their every day life

  • those dealing with back pain

  • those wanting to take better care of themselves

  • those wanting to prevent unnecessary wear and tear on the joints and muscles

  • those wanting to improve their posture

  • those wanting to develop a deeper understanding of and connection with their bodies

  • everyone!

My Story

I first experienced the Alexander Technique in group classes as a part of my BFA in Dance at the Boston Conservatory. Fast forward a few years and I’m a professional dancer in NYC traversing a rough patch in my mental health, when a good friend brought me to an Alexander class at the Balance Arts Center. Through noticing my own body, places where I was holding unnecessary tension, and becoming aware of myself in the space around me, I felt a sense of presence I hadn’t felt in a long time.

From the start of my teacher training over five years ago my body-mind have gone through so many profound changes that I don’t know that I would recognize how I used to carry myself. Our living bodies get so used to operating in deeply rooted patterns that we’ve gathered throughout our lives. Through the lens of these patterns it’s hard to even imagine what ease, freedom, and choice could look or feel like.

Through my study of this deep practice I have helped countless injuries heal, found new, more efficient ways to use my body, and found a freedom and spaciousness of both body and mind that allow me to choose to be present in a way I didn’t have access to before. And dancing feels like an entirely new experience.

I completed my 1,600 hour teacher training in spring of 2023 and am now an AmSAT Certified Alexander Technique teacher. I am so excited to continue sharing this practice with others.

In my teaching, I love meeting people where they’re at with a curious/nonjudgmental approach and offering guidance to explore physical habits, balance, alignment, awareness, and beyond. A core value I hold is making space for my own and others' healing so that we are all more able to enjoy our lives, feel connected to each other, and fight for a more rational society.

I currently offer:

  • 55 minute private sessions for a sliding scale of $70 - $100

  • a 4 pack of 55 minute private sessions for $260 - $380

Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions at all and to book a session. All sessions are at the Balance Arts Center in midtown, Manhattan. I can’t wait to connect with and support you!

TESTIMONIALS

Having an Alexander Technique session with Holly is like receiving a magical touch. She is careful, kind, and attentive to detail. I feel that I can trust her instantly because of her calm, listening, and non-judgmental energy. I am able to feel more inside of my body, and after each session I leave with a newfound sense of anatomical levity.

Holly is my go-to for bodily pain relief because her approach encourages breath, imagination, and wholeness. I have healed from multiple injuries through working with her and I look forward to each time that I get to be in her presence. I am grateful that she has committed herself to this practice because the benefits are extraordinary. Thank you, Holly!

I came to Holly after throwing out my back and having to be immobile for about a week and a half. Her gentle guidance and calm demeanor made it easy to melt back into my body, and trust that my skeleton could hold me up. My recovery was so much quicker than anticipated, and I believe that was due to Holly’s adjustments. She is a born healer and I can’t wait to continue my exploration with her!

I came to Holly for an Alexander session knowing I was in a safe and holy space. I re-discovered the neutrality within my body. Complete remembrance. Holly is a deeply compassionate, and competent facilitator of reclaiming “the home in the bones.”

Holly’s presence, knowledge and skill encompasses your innate access to be reborn, to have a good death to whatever mythos your skeleton might be holding onto. Tears were released. Even my spine seemed to approve—it cracked with gentle adjustment—no forcing, no manipulation. Just presence in the present. Holly reminded me, “There is nowhere to be, nowhere to go, but here.”

My first session with Holly was like a reawakening. It was as if she magically flipped some clandestine switch that connects my brain to my body and my body back to my brain. What a gift it has been to feel consciously connected to myself again.

Holly is a great listener. She has taken the time to understand some of the persistent physical ailments that trouble me, namely, a sharp recurring pain in my middle back and a chronic discomfort in my feet and ankles. In every lesson, Holly is helping me discover subtle corrections that have considerable positive impacts on my areas of difficulty.

Holly is great at framing the work we do together in a practical way that translates easily into everyday life. At various times throughout the week, I will remember Holly saying “find the floor.” The mere memory of this instruction will trigger a notable release of bodily tension and ground me firmly in the present moment.
